Mythbusters awards qualifications

I think that we deserve the title of Most entertaining. I would say we deserve all of them, but that is more work that I don't feel like doing. Despite how it seemed it would turn out, Zac, Will, and Danny did quite well with the editing, leading to a hilarious final result. The video was well made, as well as it was the one with biggest words use properly. I feel that our video meets most if not all of the criteria, while still completing all the goals set in place.

Why We Deserve The Entertaining and Unique Awards

I think we deserve the most entertaining award because our video is rediculously funny. Our theme song is very whimsical. The bloopers are hilarious. Our video is VERY awkward. By the criteria given to us we are the definition of the entertaining award.

One With Biggest Words Use Properly

I believe our video most deserves the "Most Entertaining Award" because of several reasons. First of all, we are funny. Second of all we are one with use biggest words properly. Lastly we used our humor effectively without taking away from the content and actual science of the video. We worked hard on our video and I think Zac deserves a special written affirmation because he went above and beyond what was expected of him and made the video flow seamlessly.

Award

After watching our Mythbuster’s video I think that our class deserves the Most Entertaining award. My reasoning for this is that we have been the only class as of yet to make Cheryl laugh so much due to our video. We had a catchy title, introduction, and logo, which further add to my reasoning. Our video also included a bloopers real, which also added to the entertainment value. Lastly, we had Jon in our video, who added his comments in a very awkward yet entertaining way.

Impression Of The Class HW

How organized/ready did you feel the class was to film on Tuesday?
I thought that the class was fairly organized and ready to film on Tuesday to our best ability. However, with the camera issues we faced in class, having a limited amount of camera battery, I feel we were rushed and it led to a less then perfect outcome. Otherwise, I thought we were prepared enough and many of the scenes filled came out quite well, even with the added pressure.

How do you feel your commentary about the plants was? What could be improved upon for Thursday's filming?
Again, we were rushed from the threat of low battery, and that caused some unneeded stress. I do feel that the amount of discussion was unbalanced, with one group member contributing around 50% of the commentary, and a second group member contributing around 35% of the commentary, even though we had 4 total members involved. Perhaps if we all had a more equal share in the commentary and some members worked on having shorter responses, then it would benefit the video.

Do you feel your class is in good position to get this done on time? Why or why not?
Yes, I feel our class will have time to spare in terms of the filming. However, with the editing process I can foresee us running into quite a bit of trouble, as we only have 2 members editing the video (as far as I'm concerned, Will is not in our class at this point).

Homework Tuesday night (Due Thursday 5/2)

Everyone should write/publish a BLOG POST about how they feel things went during class today (Nicholas Brown - you are exempt as you were not part of class today).

Zac: continue to work on narrator script for the experiment preview and intro of the 4 on-screen guys (you, Jon, Denis, and Nick Boston)

Nick Boston: Continue to work on/finish script for the background info and expectations for the thermometer biofeedback experiment. In the script, answer why you are doing this experiment...has it been done before and what do you think will happen??

This experiment will include meditation before heart rate and then listening to loud music and being stressed and then taking heart rate.

• When your temperature is high, your physical and mental performance are faster.
• A passing 'grade' for a Tibetan lama from a lamasary school is to go out onto a frozen lake stark naked and with his body heat alone, evaporate the moisture out of two water soaked blankets!
• Even though your normal body temperature is 98.6°F, your finger temperature varies between the 70's and the 90's.
• just thinking of one of your hands increases the blood volume to that hand
• When blood volume increases, the capillaries in the skin dilate and the temperature of the skin increases
• When blood flow decreases, the blood vessels in the skin constrict and temperature decreases.
• As an exercise, take an ordinary medical thermometer and tape it to your forefinger
• Experience the feeling of the tape and thermometer touching it, but ignore the thermometer completely
• try different visualizations (sun's rays, hot water, campfire, etc.) to raise the temperature of the
  forefinger and just "feel" it warming up.
• Coincide this process with deep, steady abdominal breathing. If you forcefully try to 'will' your finger to get warm, a bodily reaction of 'fight or flight' results in a constriction of the blood vessels in preparation
  for violent action, and you achieve the reverse effect -- coolness
• To make your fingers cooler, visualize digging with your fingers into the icy snow of an avalanche that has partially engulfed you or visualize some other stressful scene or dangerous situation.
