Homework 3/26 - due Thursday

OK guys
You spent a class period today trying to get a storyboard together for the plant experiment on Thursday. My question for you is: How did that work out for you? :)

More importantly, please answer the following VERY honestly and blog it (in the comments of this blog post)
1) How did you interact with each other?
2) Did you respect the leadership of the director/producer?
3) Did you fulfill your role in this process?
4) How was the communication within the group?
5) Did you complete your task? Why/Why not?
6) What can be changed next time to help this process go more smoothly?

Final Decisions For Expirements:

1. How energized water affects plant growth.
2. Changing temperatures in hands with focus.
3. Stress reduction: Includes heart rate.
4. How focused energy affects candle flame.

Monday 3/25 Homework

Blog about the following regarding the Mythbusters episode we watched today:
1) Intro - how do they start the episode?
2) Hypothesis - what is it? What kind of background info did they provide?
3) Experiment - how did they plan it? How was it set up?
4) Results - how did they present the conclusions?
5) Humor - how did they use humor to make it interesting; how did they keep the audience engaged?

Blog your thoughts on the episode you saw and how you can make your episode look similar.

All EXCEPT Nicholas Brown and Denis:
Come up with TWO more Biofeedback experiments to do for this episode of mythbusters. We are already doing the thermometers in each hand and the plant experiment. You can work together but I want a list of materials needed and an experimental design BY TUESDAY MORNING.
Thanks all

Materials Lists

Energized Water Experiment

- Two watering devices
- Bottled or tap water
- Four or six potted plants
- One timer

Thermometer Experiment

- One thermometer
- One timer

Thermometer Research

Sources:

Notes:
  • When your temperature is high, your physical and mental performance are faster.
  • A passing 'grade' for a Tibetan lama from a lamasary school is to go out onto a frozen lake stark naked and with his body heat alone, evaporate the moisture out of two water soaked blankets!
  • Even though your normal body temperature is 98.6°F, your finger temperature varies between the 70's and the 90's.
  • just thinking of one of your hands increases the blood volume to that hand
  • When blood volume increases, the capillaries in the skin dilate and the temperature of the skin increases
  • When blood flow decreases, the blood vessels in the skin constrict and temperature decreases.
  • As an exercise, take an ordinary medical thermometer and tape it to your forefinger
  • Experience the feeling of the tape and thermometer touching it, but ignore the thermometer completely
  • try different visualizations (sun's rays, hot water, campfire, etc.) to raise the temperature of the
forefinger and just "feel" it warming up.
  • Coincide this process with deep, steady abdominal breathing. If you forcefully try to 'will' your finger to get warm, a bodily reaction of 'fight or flight' results in a constriction of the blood vessels in preparation
for violent action, and you achieve the reverse effect -- coolness
  • To make your fingers cooler, visualize digging with your fingers into the icy snow of an avalanche that has partially engulfed you or visualize some other stressful scene or dangerous situation.

The time has come, its for the best, i know it.

I think we should change to a different design.

What do you guys think? (and lady)

Our Myths

Our Myths

  • Da Vinci Crossbow
    • Build a model crossbow identical to Da Vinci's original crossbow design
  • Energy Water & Plants
    • Focus on sending loving/positive energy to one batch of water, and sending hatful/negative energy to another batch. Then water 2 batches of plants with one of the stores of water.
    • We will be using Pea plants that will be grown from seeds bought from a local store.
  • Thermometer Test
    • Focus on raising the temperature of one thermometer (in one hand), and lowering the temperature of another thermometer (in the other hand).
